A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Adekunle Akinlade, has indicated interest to contest the 2019 governorship ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State. Akinlade, who represents Egbado South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, proffered the rationale behind his interest in succeeding the incumbent Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. The Federal Lawmaker explained when he visited APC State Secretariat in Abeokuta alongside hundreds of his supporters and party stalwarts that he was fully ready to sustain and improve on Amosun-led government’s mission to rebuild the State.
According to the aspirant who is from Ogun West Senatorial District, which has not produced a governor since the creation of the State, the visit to the Secretariat was to seek the Party Leaders’ blessing on his governorship ambition.
“I believe I am ably qualified for the position,” the Legislator said, adding: “I have worked closely with the Governor and I have learnt a lot from him and so I am qualified and I have the capacity to do it. I want to add that I am a God-fearing person and trustworthy.”
“The present achievement and legacy of Amosun should be handed over to the person who has the capacity, trust and confidence because if we fail to, the legacy may be shattered, God forbid,” he stressed.
Lemboye declared: “Seven years ago, the governorship race started like this and we had more than 10 aspirants. Amosun joined the race at 11th hour, but as God would have it, he emerged as the Party’s candidate and subsequently as the Governor.
“Back then, we never knew his mind, but I can tell you categorically today that, Amosun is the best Governor Ogun has ever had in its 41 years of existence.”
